ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the correlation between vital capacity, pulmonary ventilation and morphological parameters among children living in different altitude areas, so as to provide a reference basis for the development of prevention and control strategies for high altitude illness. Methods From January 2019 to June 2020, primary and secondary school students aged 7 to 15 years old were randomly selected from three different altitude areas, which were Xining (2 260m, low altitude group), Haixi (2 900m, medium altitude group), and Yushu (4 493m, high altitude group), respectively. The vital capacity, pulmonary ventilation and morphological parameters of the selected children were recorded. Results The vital capacity, pulmonary ventilation and morphological parameters showed statistically significant difference among three groups (P<0.05). The vital capacity and pulmonary ventilation were positively correlated with lung volume, but negatively correlated with lung density and lung artery diameter (P<0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed that there were three factors affecting children's vital capacity and lung ventilation: mean lung density, total lung transverse diameter, and total lung volume (P<0.05). Conclusion The monitoring of lung morphological indexes, mean lung density, total lung transverse diameter, and total lung volume can effectively judge children's lung function, and have certain value in the prevention and treatment of related high-altitude illness.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To investigate the consistency among different experienced physicians in the measurement of morphological parameters of intracranial aneurysms. Methods: From April 1,2017 to April 30,2017, DSA data of 27 aneurysms from 24 consecutive patients in Department of Neurosurgery, Xuanwu Hospital, Capital Medical University were retrospectively collected. Morphological measurement of these aneurysms was performed after three-dimensional reconstruction (morphological parameters:diameter, height, width, neck widui and aneurysm inflow-angle).The measurement physicians were three interventional neuroradiologists who were engaged in cerebrovascular diseases for less than 5 years (3 years),5 to 10 years (9 years) and more than 10 years (13 years),and they were blinded to each other. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was used to compare the consistency of measurements among the three physicians, and the Kruskal-Wallis rank sum test was used to compare the statistical differences. Results: The ICC values were consistent in morphological parameters of aneurysm diameter, width, height and neck width among the three different experienced physicians (ICC = 0. 936 -0. 995). However, in terms of the inflowangle measurement, there was moderately consistent (ICC = 0. 561) between the physician within 5 years and the one experienced 5 to 10 years, and both of them were poorly consistent with the physician over 10years (ICC =0.465 and ICC = 0. 284, respectively). There were no statistically significant differences among the three different experienced physicians in measuring morphological parameters of length (diameter, height, width and neck width;H values were 0.881,0.743,1.651 and 0. 160;all P value >0.05),but the difference in inflow-angle was statistically significant (H = 1.391, P =0.006). Conclusion Length parameters have good consistency among different experienced physicians in clinical measurement, but the measurement of angle parameters has poor consistency and is not reliable enough.

ABSTRACT

The present study was conducted to assess the effect of different concentrations (control, 25, 50, 75 and 100%) of paper mill effluent on some morphological characters of Cicer arietinum. Result showed maximum growth promotion i.e., root length (3.8 cm), shoot length (10.0 cm) and increase in chlorophyll content (1.004 mg gm-1) at 50% effluent concentration after 21 days. However, at higher effluent concentration growth parameters started decreasing. The study suggests that the effluent can be used safely for Cicer arietinum cultivation only after proper dilution up to a certain extent.

ABSTRACT

Vermicompost is a very important biofertilizer produced through the artificial cultivation of worms i.e. Vermiculture. Vermicompost is enriched with all beneficial soil bacteria and also contain many of the essential plant nutrients like N, P, K and micronutrients. It increases soil aeration, texture and jilt. In this work, study is being carried out to find out the effect of different fertilizers such as DAP, FYM and Vermicompost on various morphological parameters and on the in vitro growth of bacterial colonies and its diversity in relation to two important leguminous plants such as Pisum sp. and Cicer sp. Results showed that plant grown in Vermicompost pretreated soil exhibited maximum increase in all morphological parameters such as root length, shoot length, number of root branches, number of stem branches, number of leaves, number of flowers, number of pods and number of root nodules in four months sampling in comparison to untreated, FYM treated and DAP treated soils. Further in Vermicompost pretreated soil, number of N2 fixing bacterial colony was maximum and showed highest diversity indices (1.6 and 0.99 and 2.0 and 0.99 for Cicer sp. and Pisum sp. respectively) than FYM, DAP and untreated control. Thus not only does the Vermicompost stimulate plant growth but also it increases the N2 fixing bacterial population in soil and also its diversity.

ABSTRACT

The present study compared some morphometric parameters of the digestive tract of four teleosts with different feeding habits: traira (Hoplias malabaricus, carnivore), silver catfish (Rhamdia quelen, omnivore), hassar (Hoplosternum littorale, omnivore), and grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella, herbivore). The digestive tract was removed from fish collected from nature and fixed for some morphometric analyses, such as: intestinal quotient, intestinal area quotient, vilosity height, digestive somatic index, and hepatosomatic index. Grass carp showed the highest values of intestinal quotient and height vilosity. On the other hand, the intestinal area quotient was higher in traira than in the other species. The intestinal quotient can be used to estimate the feeding habit, and the intestinal area quotient, vilosity height and the relationships between digestive tract length and fish weight or digestive tract weight can provide important additional information to analyze the feeding habits.

ABSTRACT

Context: Nipple areola (NA) sparing mastectomy has an acceptable complication rate, is oncologically safe and facilitates an improved cosmetic result, aiding greatly in reducing psychological trauma associated with breast loss. Questions regarding preoperative case selection for NA sparing mastectomy are pertinent. Aims: The principle objective was to develop a simple model based on correlation of malignant involvement of NA with morphological factors in breast cancer cases to accurately predict the cancerous involvement of nipple areola preoperatively. Settings and Design: The present cross-sectional study was carried out on 136 patients of breast cancer. The period of study spanned 3 years from 2004 to 2007. Materials and Methods: We evaluated 17 different morphological parameters which had proven prognostic significance in breast cancer cases for their relationship with NA involvement. Data regarding cytological parameters were available in 120 cases out of the total number of 136 cases. Simple and conventional methods appropriate for any under-resourced set-up were employed to enhance the economic viability and acceptability of the project. Statistical Analysis used: Statistical analysis in this study was mostly done using SPSS version: 14 software. P-value < 0.05 was considered significant when assessing correlation between two parameters. Results: The frequency of NA involvement detected in this study was 19.1%. In univariate analysis, 13 of the 17 morphological parameters were found to have strong statistical association (P<0.05) with NA involvement. In multivariate analysis, only four parameters-macroscopic NA changes, tumor-NA distance (<1.5cm), histological lymph node grade and extra capsular extension in lymph node were found to have independent role for NA involvement prediction. This multivariate Cox and Snell Regression model with Cox and Snell Regression Square of 0.551 can predict accurately 98.5% cases of nipple involvement using the 4 parameters as variables. Conclusions: By application of this simple multivariate model, accurate prediction of NA involvement would be possible preoperatively. NA sparing mastectomy may be performed on those cases predicted to have no NA involvement thus substantially reducing the burden of psychological morbidity.
